Spring 2018

By Phil Taylor

Dear Church Family,

This past Spring Break, the churches of the CrossNet Baptist Network banned together for a mission trip to Washington, DC and God moved in powerful ways. Mission Team Members from Bellefounte, FBC Cleveland, FBC Georgetown, Mt. Carmel, Washington Ave. and Waterville participated. Mission Projects included hosting an Easter outreach, evangelism with Ethiopians, serving at a homeless soup kitchen, placing 9,000 Easter door hangers and more! Please continue praying for our DC partnership.

Our disaster relief teams have transitioned to send relief to Puerto Rico. Approximately $25,000 has been used to aid the recovery efforts in Puerto Rico through our mission teams that have been deployed. We have had 10 deployments from November – April mobilizing 120 Volunteers. We have two scheduled trips coming up and more to come (see below). Call CrossNet at 423-476-5493 if you are interested in participating.

  • Trip 11: April 21-27, team of 15 led by Al Miller (Meadowview)
  • Trip 12: May 12-18, team of 12-14 led by Clint Davis (Eastanallee) -- OPEN SPOTS

On Monday May14th from 9:30am to 2:00pm, we will be hosting a Prayer Boot Camp with Claude King at the CrossNet Baptist Network office. God is calling His people to prayer, and God’s people are responding with a hunger to learn to pray more effectively and strategically. Prayer Boot Camp is a flexible prayer training experience to provide basic training in prayer and to introduce the weapons of our spiritual warfare. It is not just learning about prayer. It is learning to pray by praying together. The content is based on The Battle Plan for Prayer by Stephen and Alex Kendrick, developers of “War Room.” Please RSVP by 423-476-5493.

We are continuing our CrossNet 3e series – Equip, Engage, Expand with a special conference called “How to Make Disciples Rather Than Casual Christians.”  This general leadership, Sunday School and small group discipleship Conference will be held May 15 at 6:30pm at Westwood Baptist. There will be two sessions to choose from - Part 1 will be a repeat of the January Session and Part 2 is brand new.

The CrossNet Baptist Network “VITA” Program which stands for "Volunteer Income Tax Assistance" has just concluded and has been a great tool to reach our community with the message of hope through Jesus Christ. This year the VITA tax ministry has helped about 200 clients do their taxes.  Every client is presented the Gospel message while they are waiting for their taxes. One mother was concerned about her son and wanted him to have a Bible written on his level and we were able to give them Bibles in a more modern translation. We have encouraged several to get back in church.  We have been thanked over and over for providing this service. A special “Thank You” to Linda Finnell (Westwood), our VITA Coordinator and her dedicated team of volunteers.

Our theme for Ocoee Outreach in 2018 is "Project Serve." More than 1,200 volunteers from 35 Churches in 7 states will be here on mission with Ocoee Outreach this summer. Teams are available to assist CrossNet churches with canvassing, community outreach and more! If you are interested, please contact Randy or Natalie at 476-5493.

In His Grace,

Phil Taylor

On Mission

Dear Church Family,

I am reminded today that I have much to be thankful for as I am sure you do too. First, and foremost, I am thankful for your support of CrossNet Baptist Network and to the spreading of the Gospel to the ends of the earth. At this writing, I am unpacking from the recent mission trip to Nigeria and Kenya, Africa, and repacking for the next mission trip to Istanbul, Turkey and Nepal. While in Nigeria and Kenya, our team conducted church leadership meetings and crusades. It was my privilege to be one of the guest speakers to the ministers in the leadership meeting. I ask for your continued prayers regarding both the lost peoples of these areas and for the minsters there.

As to the mission ahead in Istanbul, Turkey and Nepal, I will be traveling with four familiar brothers: Jim Gibson, J. R. Fulbright, Scott Boring (all of First Baptist Cleveland), and Mark Cameron of Samples Memorial. Remember us in your prayers that we may be highly successful on this trip. May God continue to bless the response to the Great Commission through your faithful prayers and gifts that further His Kingdom work! You are indeed a great partner in the Gospel.

At this writing, CrossNet Baptist Network has disaster relief teams in Port St. Joe, Florida, based out of their First Baptist Church. This area took a direct hit from Hurricane Michael and the result was heavily damaged homes, businesses, and churches. Our most seasoned volunteers have stated that this recovery effort is very draining as Hurricane Michael caused damaged greater than Hurricane Katrina. The buildings may be damaged, but not the Spirit of Christ among his people. For those who do not know Christ, these teams bring with them the Good News and a light that shines brightly in the ruins. As the recovery moves forward in the upcoming months, we are considering a potential long-term commitment in the panhandle of Florida to help churches there survive and revitalize post Michael.
