You Can Help Meet A Need

You can Help Meet A Need

Contrary to most people’s thinking, you do not need to speak a foreign language to help or befriend an immigrant. All you need is a sincere desire to serve and an open heart to care.

Here are some suggestions for possible outreach ministries at your church or as a ministry for your group. Give us a call at the Association! We can help you set these up.

  • English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes for adults
  • After-School Program (assistance with homework and tutoring)
  • Soccer League
  • Sports & Recreation program
  • Food Pantry and/or Clothes Closet
  • Translation and Interpretation service
  • Educational opportunities for adults
  • Computer courses
  • Literacy classes in their language and/or English
  • Citizenship classes (preparation for US Citizenship Test)
  • Preparation for GED
  • Parenting classes
  • Crafts & Hobbies
  • Job skills training
  • Health education/fair
  • Connecting to employment opportunities
  • Notary Public service
  • Miscellaneous assistance
  • Purchasing airplane tickets
  • Translation of documents
  • Interpretation for interviews, doctor’s visits, parent/teacher conferences, etc
  • Filing income tax return
  • Filling out immigration forms

Do not forget your own church’s regular events and programs! They can be used as outreach too.

  • Sponsor a Sunday school class in a foreign language or in very basic English
  • Use your Vacation Bible School (VBS) to reach out to immigrant children
  • Invite immigrant families to church events and fellowships
  • Purposeful outreach to immigrant youth and children for your programs
  • Community events
